GINGER (FEEL GOOD) // ATRIP EP REVIEW

“GINGER (FEEL GOOD” - ATRIP

JUNE 20TH

South London’s ATRIP has a new EP out and it’s a summer stutter masterclass. ATRIP is a testament to the capital's love for emotive electronic music. You might know ATRIP from tracks such as “All Night” and “Talking Too Much”, but if you don’t and you appreciate emotive dance music such as that from Fred Again, Barry Can’t Swim and Elkka, Then this new EP is a perfect gateway into ATRIP’s discography.

The first track - “Ginger (Feel Good)” - feels like a gentle warmup for what’s to come, setting the mood, quite literally, whilst staying relatively chill in its approach. There’s some disco fever nostalgia underpinned by a groovy baseline and vocals that flourish over the melody whilst staying layered into the mix. “Rainbow” features, which has already become ATRIP’s current most popular song. “Rainbow” fits aptly into the build with slightly higher bpm and harder hitting drops aided by more prominent percussion. “Cortez” differs slightly from the previous 2 and again levels up that energy with a minor key bass and ATRIP’s signature stuttery foreground melody that grows and falls throughout the track, both taking it in turns to lead the mix and the listener. The final track, “Look At Me Dance” features Pote who add’s smooth vocals and applies a letting loose vibe to track most similar to the first track in the EP, creating a circular feel to the EP.

If you want to catch ATRIP live over the summer he’s playing at 2 UK festivals:

The Secret Garden Party, July 25th

Into The Woods,  September 14th
