SINGLES RADAR
“Flex FM (Freddit) - Joy Orbison, Lil Yachty, Playboi Carti, Future, Fred Again…”
Anyone who's had the pleasure of seeing Joy Orbison live this year will have heard this banger and dreamed of it coming to a streaming site near you. Joy O’s popular track, Flight FM is remixed into an anthem that will surely place him even more on the map. With the help of Fred Again… on both the reproduction, and imaginably getting Yachty, Carti and Future to agree to the feature, we have finally seen an “official” version come to life. It got a huge debut on Radio 1 with Joy O explaining the what this track means to him, from the name, which was a pirate radio station he grew up listening to, the same as that of Flight FM, and the life this track has had outside of his own sets, with Fred playing it to 180,000 people in L.A, as well as the myriad of other bootlegs that have spawned out of Flight FM’s “Blank Canvas”. The track Joy uses for the vocals is Lil Yachty’s “Flex Up” Featuring Playboi Carti and Future. We were lucky enough to witness the Debut of Flight FM at Lost Village Festival Last year aqnd We’ve got our fingers crossed that Flex FM will be the track of the festival this year, even without presence from Joy O. Flex Up. Stretch Up. Big Bands. Whoa Whoa!
“CHING” - GEE LEE
JULY 26TH
Face scrunching, ching, is the latest bop from North London’s GEE LEE. I’m sure you’ve all heard his Coke & Rum Remix, Fake ID? Well… This one is even more of a banger! High energy. Tick. Flavoursome hip-hop vocals. Tick. And it’s got a catchy syncopated cadence that adds to the track's danceability. So, If you need a new track to get you in that Friday mood, look no further!
“FRONT LEFT ROMANCE” - PROJEKTBAU
JULY 19TH
The ever-romantic and nostalgic PROJEKTBAU has dropped an uptempo track with fast and pitched vocals that stutter and echo around the room, panning around the listener. The various analog sounding synths resemble those used by Overmono, giving warmth to the track. The variable looping vocals alongside the building layers of synths give the track intense drops and blissful points where only the vocals supersede. Certainly an afterparty track to play when the emotions of the night take hold.
“HOW I FEEL” - 1-800 GIRLS
MAY 17TH
Emotional dance/electronic artist, 1-800 GIRLS AKA Jake Stewart released “How I Feel” a couple months ago and it’s already become his most popular song on spotify. It has a melody that calls out to uk rave culture, developing and growing as the track goes on, and percussive elements that underpin. The high pitched vocals give the track more emotional depth whilst also adding to the percussion through a skipped effect that increases in frequency as the track builds. Jake says each track is crafted to evoke a range of emotions. To us, this track evokes senses of nostalgia and melancholy, beckoning to a simpler time. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on 1-800 GIRLS and hope to see a debut album soon. If you like what you hear, he has an upcoming gig at the iconic venue, Fabric, on the 9th of August.
“LUV STUCK” - SALUTE FT. PIRI
JUNE 20TH
With an album only days away and a lot of hype around his music in recent months, Salute is teasing us already with some groovy club beats that will feature on the upcoming project release. Luv Stuck is a track with catchy melodic vocals, ethereal sounding synths and gentle dancy bass that gives the track a nostalgic summer vibe. Piri’s vocals lend themselves well, providing a dance-pop lift to the track. It’s a short track for Salute, but we think short and sweet are the perfect match on this occasion.
“CAPE TOWN” - CABU
JUNE 21ST
Sydney based artist, Cabu, has a huge following with our cousins in the US and Australia, but is yet to blow up in the same way here in the UK. He brings those kaytranda-esc smooth summer beats that suit both relaxed and party settings. His new single, Cape Town, has buttery smooth vocal hits and jazzy keys with a groovy bass rhythm to compliment. If you like Kaytranada’s soulful house, you’re doing yourself a disservice not to be listening to Cabu. Hopefully this new single cues the release of a new album.
“ALL I NEED” - JASPER TYGNER
JULY 5TH
Jasper is becoming more and more of a household name in the bubble of electronic DJ/Producers that have emerged out of London. With a recent Phonox gig alongside Berlin based producer Logic1000 and MixMag live set the following week to coincide with his new EP,
He is clearly making moves and we’re so excited to see him blow up. We were fortunate enough to see him at both aforementioned shows and his performances were equally brilliant, but different. At Phonox he was mixing high energy tracks and new releases such as Caribou’s Honey, whilst his MixMag gig was imaginably more true to the style of his own music.
“All I Need” is just one track out of 4 on his new EP, but the vocals and fluttery analogue synths compliment each other so well that we couldn’t not mention it. It starts off steady before giving us a gentle buildup and a higher energy drop at the end. Despite being the shortest song on the EP, I think I’ll be listening to this track the most.
If you have a chance to catch Jasper Tygner this summer, don't pass up.
“PUSH” - SKRILLEX, HAMDI, TAICHU, CONTRA, OFFAIAH
MAY 24TH
WHAT A RAGER. Everything skrillex touches seems to turn to gold and this is no exception. Bass face is unavoidable with Hamdi providing his signature wobbly bass and the side eye vocals from from Cat Conners and Taichu add a certain spice to the energy. One to add to those dj sets when you need the crowd to wake up.
“EVERYTHING BLOOMS AROUND HER” - ANISH KUMAR
MAY 3RD
Anish Kumar’s new single is an uptempo banger synthesized with his trademark indian vocals and overtones. If you like Jai Paul and you like soulful dancey house this is one to add to your summer playlist.
“KIMBARA” - BARRY CAN'T SWIM
APRIL 30TH
Joshua Mainnie AKA BARRY CAN'T SWIM, dropped Potentially the single of the summer on the 30th of April that firmly signaled party season for us here at Sequel. Barry, already having claimed radio 1s best dance album award and a brits nomination is at no sign of slowing down; and with a Stella coachella performance, the release of Kimbara and 3 back to back sold out london shows, he's on track to being recognised by your Dad, your Nan and your Dog. We're starting to understand why learning to swim isn't on his list of priorities.
